What We Offer

When a loved one dies, there are many decisions and arrangements that need to be made at a very distressing time. We are specialist probate accountants, dealing with probate & the administration of a deceased’s estate, including calling in assets, determining liabilities, preparation of Inheritance Tax forms and application for the Grant of Probate. Probate TaxWe work with the Executors and advise regarding related income and capital gains tax implications following the disposal of assets.Provide estate accounts and deal with the final distribution of assets to beneficiaries. Cost effective - our knowledge of taxation means we aim to minimise the estate’s liability as much as possible.Fees - calculated on a time basis and is dependent upon the work involved.

Probate Services

  • Meet with you to discuss the probate process, review the Will and estimated estate and provide an action plan. The initial consultation is free of charge, following which we will give you an indication of our costs and the basis on which charges are made

  • Review the deceased’s papers and identify those that are relevant and if necessary additional information that will be required

  • If there is no Will, we will assist in identifying who will inherit the estate under the intestacy rules and who is eligible to apply for the Grant of Letters of Administration

  • Notify the various asset holders of the death and obtain official probate valuations of the assets and liabilities at the date of death

  • Analyse any significant lifetime gifts made by the deceased in the seven years before their death and the tax implications of such gifts

  • Notify the authorities and other relevant third parties to obtain further valuations and income tax information

  • Where relevant prepare the deceased’s self-assessment tax return for the period to the date of death to determine any income tax or capital gains tax liabilities at the date of death

  • Collate records and data for the purposes of completing the inheritance tax return

  • Advising on available IHT reliefs or exemptions available and making required applications

  • Preparation of inheritance tax forms and supporting schedules to be submitted to HMRC

  • Calculating and advising regarding any inheritance tax payable (IHT)

  • Applying for the Grant of Probate

  • Collation of assets, payment of debts and distribution to beneficiaries

  • Preparation of Final Estate accounts (if applicable)

  • Advise in potential tax savings through a variation to the Will

  • Calculating potential Capital Gains Tax Liabilities and Income Tax liabilities arising on the estate

  • Preparation of tax returns required during the administration period

Our fees are based on an hourly charge-out rate and the work involved, depending upon the complexity.

We will also give you an indication of the timescales likely to be involved in the process including current timescales with third parties, such as the Probate Office.
